Wotcha!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day. I’ll be traveling for the next three weekends to spend time with my family back in England, so I’ll be mixing up the format during this time.

Some new recommendations along with a few I’ve previously covered and the round-up of NA beers you’ll see in this edition. I also have an interview with a founder coming up in a couple of weeks that I’m really excited to share with you.

By the time you read this, I’ll probably be sitting in a pub in South London with friends, enjoying a pint of Guinness 0 and watching England (hopefully) beat Wales in the rugby.

Enjoy some great drinks this week.

Cheers,

Myles

BEER

ModSub: As St. Patrick’s Day approaches, I’ve put together a list of non-alcoholic beers you can enjoy alongside the other revelers on the 17th.

The most obvious and widely available choice is Guinness 0, but don’t overlook options from other breweries—there are plenty to choose from!

With the exception of Guinness, which doesn’t offer direct sales, I’ve linked directly to each brewery’s online store. Some may be running low on stock by the time you read this, but be sure to check your favorite local non-alcoholic drinks store—they’ll likely have one or more of these options.

COCKTAIL
Lady Grey Tea and Tonic

The ModSub thoughts: Mrs. ModSub and I have recently been on a bit of a “use up stuff in the fridge” kick. One of my bad habits in this department is leaving half-empty bottles of tonic water to go flat. They invariably shuffle their way to the back of the fridge, collecting like neglected siblings.

So this morning, I set about looking for some good options for what to do with the half bottle of tonic water that has not lost its fizz.

As my search took me in various directions, one popped out at me that looked like it had my name on it: the Earl Grey Tea and Tonic. It proved to be quite the crowd-pleaser.

It was super easy to whip up, and for such simple ingredients, it’s a surprisingly complex drink. The black tea and bergamot are given a little extra citrus boost from the lemon and the tonic water while the bitterness is rounded off by the sugar.

After reading through some comments on the recipe, I decided to experiment with some of their suggestions:

  • I used half the sugar to make the simple syrup, which reduced the viscosity but more importantly, the sugar!

  • I also added 6 peppercorns to give it a little spice.

  • I liked the idea of adding some lavender flowers but had none on hand, so I added a couple of dashes of Lavender Bitters from All The Bitter.

  • I switched out the Earl Grey tea bags for Lady Grey for the increased citrus flavor.

So good! Chances are, you already have these ingredients in your kitchen. Give it a try this weekend and let me know what variations you come up with!
